Oliver Schweiger presents ANTENNA at the Biodiversa+ kick off meeting

Shortly after ANTENNA’s first meeting, the Kick-off for the 33 research projects sponsored by the BiodivMon research call was held in Tallinn, Estonia on April 17, 2024, by Biodiversa+ and the Estonian Research Council (ETAG). With the goal of "improving transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society," this program grants more than €46 million to initiatives that are expected to have a significant influence on policy and society.

A wide range of stakeholders attended the meeting; about 120 people were in person and another 160 participated virtually. Researchers, policy representatives, BiodivMon Evaluation Committee members, Biodiversa+ advisory board members, and representatives from partner organisations were among the attendees.

Dr. Oliver Schweiger (UFZ), ANTENNA project coordinator, took part in the third session of the day “Terrestrial invertebrates projects” alongside other projects. He gave an overview of ANTENNA, the main goal of the project and the objectives and methodologies aimed at advancing biodiversity monitoring. 32 different projects were presented alongside ANTENNA. The following Q&A and discussion allowed attendees to better understand the projects of this cluster and form connections for future collaboration.

The other projects were presented in 3 different sessions:

  • “Marine projects”

  • “Aerial and inland freshwater projects”

  • “Terrestrial habitats projects”

The strategic organisation of the BiodivMon kick-off meeting alongside the Science-Policy Forum dedicated to monitoring and KMGBF implementation on 16 April and capacity-building workshops in April allowed for a comprehensive exchange of ideas among researchers, policymakers and stakeholders.
